Polish–Lithuanian War

1920 · 20th century

The Polish–Lithuanian War was an undeclared conflict of 1920 between Poland and Lithuania over the Vilnius region. After the Suwałki Agreement, the Polish general Lucjan Żeligowski seized Vilnius in October 1920 in a staged mutiny; Lithuanian forces then halted his advance at Širvintos and Giedraičiai, and a ceasefire in late November left Vilnius in Polish hands, poisoning relations between the two states until 1938.
