Polish–Soviet War
The Polish–Soviet War was fought from 1919 to 1921 between the Second Polish Republic and Soviet Russia and Soviet Ukraine over the lands between them. After Polish forces took Kyiv in 1920, the Red Army advanced to Warsaw, where Józef Piłsudski's counter-offensive won the Battle of Warsaw; the Peace of Riga (1921) divided Belarus and Ukraine between Poland and the Soviet republics.
