Potsdam
Potsdam is the capital of the German state of Brandenburg, on the Havel just south-west of Berlin. A residence of the Hohenzollerns from the Great Elector onwards, it became a garrison town under Frederick William I, and Frederick the Great built the palace of Sanssouci there. Its palaces and parks are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in 1945 it hosted the Potsdam Conference.
