Powis Castle

Powis Castle is a medieval castle near Welshpool in mid Wales, built in the 13th century by the princes of Powys Wenwynwyn as their seat. It passed to the Charlton lords of Powis and was bought in 1587 by Sir Edward Herbert, whose family remodelled it. Its terraced gardens are famous, and it now belongs to the National Trust.
