Madog ap Maredudd

d. 1160 · 12th century

Madog ap Maredudd was the last king of the whole of Powys, ruling from 1132 until his death in 1160. Allied with Henry II of England against Owain Gwynedd, he extended Powys to the east and was praised by the court poets. After his death, his kingdom was divided among his heirs into Powys Fadog in the north, named after his grandson Madog ap Gruffydd, and Powys Wenwynwyn in the south.
