Praia
Praia is the capital and largest city of Cape Verde, on the south coast of Santiago island. It grew from a sheltered harbour near the older capital of Ribeira Grande, which suffered from pirate raids, and became the colony's capital in 1770. Its old centre, the Plateau, stands on a flat-topped hill above the port.
