Praja Mandal
The Praja Mandals were popular movements in the princely states of British India from the 1920s to the 1940s, linked to the Indian National Congress through the All India States Peoples' Conference. They campaigned against forced labour, heavy taxes and arbitrary rule, and for responsible government. Their agitations, at times met with firing and arrests, intensified in 1938–1939 and again after 1946, pressing rulers to merge their states into India after independence.
