6th–5th century BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Pasenadi

Prasenajit, known in Pali as Pasenadi, was king of Kosala in northern India in the time of the Buddha, ruling from Shravasti. Buddhist texts portray him as a lay follower and frequent questioner of the Buddha, and he was linked by marriage to Bimbisara of Magadha. He was overthrown by his son Vidudabha and died outside the gates of Rajagriha while seeking help from Ajatashatru.
