Přemyslid dynasty

c. 870–1306 · 9th century · Also known as Přemyslids

The Přemyslid dynasty ruled Bohemia from the late 9th century until 1306, first as dukes and from 1198 as hereditary kings. Named after the legendary ploughman Přemysl, husband of Princess Libuše, it produced Saint Wenceslas, Ottokar II, who briefly ruled Austria, and Wenceslaus II, who also became King of Poland. The male line ended with the murder of Wenceslaus III in 1306.
