Prempeh II
Prempeh II was Asantehene from 1931 to 1970, succeeding his uncle Prempeh I. In 1935 the British restored the Asante Confederacy and recognised him as its head. In the 1950s he backed the National Liberation Movement's demand for a federal Gold Coast, but Ashanti became part of a unitary Ghana in 1957.
