PRRI rebellion
The PRRI rebellion was a regional revolt against the central government of Indonesia, launched when dissident army officers and politicians proclaimed the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia in West Sumatra in February 1958. Opposed to the growing power of Sukarno and the communists, and to Javanese domination, the rebels joined forces with Permesta in Sulawesi. Government troops took their towns within months, and the guerrilla remnants surrendered under an amnesty in 1961.
