Rabi Island
Rabi Island is a volcanic island in northern Fiji, east of Vanua Levu. It was bought in 1942 with Banaban phosphate royalties, and in 1945 the British resettled most of the people of Banaba there after the Japanese occupation of their home island. The Banaban community governs itself through its own council and keeps close ties with Kiribati, to which Banaba belongs.
