Rabi'a
Rabi'a was a large confederation of Arab tribes, traditionally descended from Rabi'a ibn Nizar, which included the Bakr ibn Wa'il, Taghlib and Abd al-Qays. Before and after the rise of Islam its tribes lived in eastern Arabia and upper Mesopotamia, giving their name to the region of Diyar Rabi'a. In the 9th century groups of Rabi'a settled around Aswan and the Eastern Desert gold mines, where they formed the Banu Kanz.
