Eastern Desert
The Eastern Desert is the arid, mountainous region between the Nile valley and the Red Sea, stretching from Egypt into Sudan. It held gold, copper and hard stone quarries worked since predynastic times, and routes such as the Wadi Hammamat linked the Nile to the Red Sea. Nomadic peoples such as the Medjay, the Blemmyes and the Beja lived there.
