Vanua Levu
Vanua Levu is the second-largest island of Fiji, lying north-east of Viti Levu, with Labasa and Savusavu as its main towns. In the 19th century its chiefdoms of Macuata, Bua and Cakaudrove were drawn into wars with Bau and with the Tongan noble Enele Maʻafu, who extended his power over parts of the island. Under British rule it became a centre of sugar cane and copra production.
