Ramadan al-Suwayhili
Ramadan al-Suwayhili was a leader of Misrata in western Libya and one of the main figures of the resistance to Italian rule. In 1915 he turned against the Italians at the battle of al-Qardabiya, a heavy defeat for their forces. After the First World War he joined the ruling council of the Tripolitanian Republic, but rivalries among its leaders led to fighting, and he was killed in 1920.
