Rimé movement

19th century · 19th century · Also known as Rime movement

The Rimé movement was a non-sectarian movement in Tibetan Buddhism that arose in Kham in the 19th century. Led by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Jamgön Kongtrul and others, it collected and preserved teachings from all schools, especially lineages at risk of being lost, and encouraged respect between the Sakya, Kagyu, Nyingma and other traditions. It enjoyed the patronage of the kings of Derge.
