River Eden, Cumbria

The River Eden is a river of north-west England that rises in the Pennines and flows north-west through Cumbria, past Appleby and Carlisle, into the Solway Firth. Its fertile valley was the home of the Carvetii in the Roman period and was later guarded by medieval castles against Scottish raids.
