River Vyrnwy

Also known as Afon Efyrnwy

The River Vyrnwy (Afon Efyrnwy) is a river of mid Wales that flows east from the Berwyn area through Montgomeryshire to join the Severn near the English border. Its valley was a heartland of medieval Powys, with the mother church at Meifod and the princely court of Mathrafal. Its upper reaches were dammed in the 1880s to form Lake Vyrnwy, a reservoir for Liverpool.
