Robert Muldoon

1921–1992 · 20th century · Also known as Sir Robert Muldoon

Robert Muldoon was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1975 to 1984 and also his own finance minister. Leading the National Party, he responded to oil shocks and loss of British markets with heavy state intervention, including the Think Big energy projects and a wage and price freeze from 1982. His combative style divided the country, and he lost the snap election he called in 1984.
