Roca–Runciman Treaty

1933 · 20th century · Also known as Roca-Runciman Treaty

The Roca–Runciman Treaty was a trade agreement signed in 1933 by Argentine Vice-President Julio Argentino Roca Jr and the British trade minister Walter Runciman. Britain guaranteed a quota for Argentine chilled beef, while Argentina made concessions to British companies and imports. Widely seen as subservient to British interests, it became a symbol of the Infamous Decade.
