Rohilla War

1773–1774 · 18th century

The Rohilla War of 1773–1774 was a campaign in which Shuja-ud-Daula, Nawab of Awadh, aided by East India Company troops lent by Warren Hastings, invaded Rohilkhand. The Rohilla leader Hafiz Rahmat Khan was defeated and killed at Miranpur Katra in April 1774, and most of Rohilkhand was annexed to Awadh. Hastings's role was later attacked at his impeachment.
