Rozafa Castle

Rozafa Castle is a fortress on a rocky hill above Shkodër in northern Albania, near the meeting of the Buna and Drin rivers and Lake Shkodër. Originally an Illyrian stronghold, it was rebuilt by Venice and taken by the Ottomans after the siege of 1478–79. It takes its name from a legend of a young woman walled into its foundations so that the walls would stand.
