Lake Skadar

Also known as Lake Scutari, Lake Shkodër

Lake Skadar, also called Lake Scutari or Lake Shkodër, is the largest lake in the Balkans, lying on the border of Montenegro and Albania. Its shores and the town of Shkodër formed the core of medieval Zeta, ruled from the 14th century by the Balšić family and then by the Crnojević lords, who contested the region with Venice and the Ottomans. It is now a national park on both sides of the border.
