Balšić noble family

Also known as Balšići, House of Balšić

The Balšić were a noble family that ruled Zeta, roughly present-day Montenegro and northern Albania, from about 1360 to 1421 after the break-up of the Serbian Empire. From their seat at Shkodër they fought Ragusa, Bosnia, Venice and Albanian lords. Balša II was killed by the Ottomans at Savra in 1385, and when Balša III died in 1421 the line ended and Zeta passed to the Serbian Despotate.
