Rupiya
The rupiya was a silver coin introduced in northern India in the sixteenth century under Sher Shah Suri and adopted as the standard silver coinage of the Mughal Empire. Its consistent weight and purity made it widely trusted in trade. The circulation of the rupiya helped monetise the economy and integrate Mughal India into global trade networks.
