Saint-Palais, Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Saint-Palais is a small town in the French Basque Country, in Lower Navarre. After Castile conquered southern Navarre in 1512, the Albret kings of Navarre made it the seat of their government and courts for the lands north of the Pyrenees, and it had a royal mint. Nearby, three of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela meet.
