House of Albret

The House of Albret was a noble family of Gascony, named after the lordship of Albret in the Landes, which rose through marriage and royal service to become kings of Navarre. Jean d'Albret married Queen Catherine of Navarre in 1484, and the family kept Lower Navarre and Béarn after Ferdinand of Aragon conquered the rest of the kingdom in 1512. Through Jeanne d'Albret their lands passed to her son Henry IV of France.
