Sakata
Sakata is a port city at the mouth of the Mogami River in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, on the Sea of Japan coast. In the Edo period it shipped the rice of the Shōnai plain and the Mogami valley to Osaka and Edo on the western sea route, and merchant families such as the Homma made fortunes there. It lay within the Shōnai Domain.
