Sakarya River
The Sakarya, the ancient Sangarius, is the third-longest river of Turkey, flowing about 824 km from central Anatolia in a great arc to the Black Sea. The Phrygian capital Gordion stood on its banks. In 1921 the Turkish nationalist army defeated the Greek advance in a battle along the river, and its name was given to the modern province of Sakarya.
