Sambhar Salt Lake
Sambhar Salt Lake is India's largest inland salt lake, about 80 km west of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Salt from it supported the early medieval Chahamana dynasty, which tradition says was founded by Vasudeva, the lake's legendary discoverer, and whose homeland Shakambhari takes its name from the goddess of the lake. It remains a major source of salt and a wetland for flamingos.
