Samudragupta
Samudragupta was an emperor of the Gupta Empire who reigned c. 335–375 CE. He transformed the kingdom he inherited from his father Chandragupta I into a pan-Indian empire through campaigns recorded in the Allahabad Pillar Inscription. Accounts of the Gupta Empire note his distinction between northern kingdoms that were conquered and absorbed and southern rulers who were defeated and then reinstated as tributaries.
