Sankore Madrasah
The Sankore Madrasah was an Islamic centre of learning based around the Sankore Mosque in Timbuktu. Together with other mosques and scholarly households in the city it formed a renowned network of teaching in theology, law, astronomy and other subjects. Accounts of the Songhai Empire present it as a symbol of Timbuktu's flourishing scholarly culture under Songhai rule.
