Second Anglo-Dutch War

1665–1667 · 17th century

The Second Anglo-Dutch War was a naval and colonial war between England and the Dutch Republic, fought from 1665 to 1667 over trade and overseas possessions. After English gains such as New Amsterdam in 1664, the Dutch won the Four Days' Battle, raided the Medway in 1667 and captured Suriname. The Treaty of Breda of 1667 left each side with what it held.
