River Medway

Also known as Medway

The River Medway flows through Kent in south-eastern England to the Thames estuary. In 43 CE the Roman invasion army fought a two-day battle at a crossing of the river, probably near Rochester. Its estuary later held the naval dockyard at Chatham, and in June 1667 a Dutch fleet under Michiel de Ruyter raided it, burning English warships and towing away the flagship Royal Charles.
