Camulodunum

Camulodunum, modern Colchester in Essex, was the chief centre of the Trinovantes and later of Cunobelinus, a vast oppidum protected by long earthwork dykes. After the Roman invasion of 43 CE it became the first capital of Roman Britain and a colony of veterans with a temple to the emperor Claudius. Boudica's rebels destroyed it in 60 or 61, and it was rebuilt with stone walls that still survive.
