Colchester

Also known as Camulodunum

Colchester is a town in Essex, England, on the site of Camulodunum, the chief centre of the Catuvellauni before the Roman conquest. Claudius entered it in 43 CE, and it became the first Roman colonia in Britain, settled by veterans, with a temple to the deified Claudius. Boudica's rebels destroyed it in 60 or 61; it was rebuilt and walled, and its Norman castle stands on the temple's foundations.
