Cunobelinus

d. c. 40 CE · 1st century · Also known as Cymbeline

Cunobelinus was a king of the Catuvellauni who ruled much of south-eastern Britain from about 9 to 40 CE from his capital at Camulodunum, modern Colchester. He issued many gold coins with an ear of grain, and Suetonius calls him king of the Britons. His sons Caratacus and Togodumnus led resistance to the Roman invasion of 43, and he is the original of Shakespeare's Cymbeline.
