River Mersey

The River Mersey is a river of north-west England that flows into the Irish Sea through a wide estuary at Liverpool. Its name means 'boundary river', and in the early Middle Ages it formed the frontier between Northumbria and Mercia. The estuary later became one of Britain's great ports and the heart of the industrial north-west.
