Second Anglo-Mysore War
The Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780–1784) began when Hyder Ali invaded the Carnatic and destroyed a British detachment at Pollilur in 1780. Eyre Coote checked him at Porto Novo in 1781, and after Hyder's death in 1782 his son Tipu Sultan, aided for a time by the French, carried on the fight. The Treaty of Mangalore of 1784 ended it on the basis of mutual restitution of conquests.
