Selim III Giray

Selim III Giray was khan of Crimea in 1764–1767 and again in 1770–1771. During his second reign, in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774, Russian forces under Vasily Dolgorukov stormed the Perekop lines and overran Crimea in 1771, and he fled to Istanbul. His flight left the khanate unable to defend itself and opened the way to Russian control.
