Seon Buddhism

Also known as Korean Seon

Seon is the Korean form of Chan or Zen Buddhism, which stresses meditation and direct insight. Introduced from Tang China in the eighth and ninth centuries, it spread through the Nine Mountain schools of late Silla. In Goryeo the monk Jinul joined it with doctrinal study, and it remains the main tradition of Korean Buddhism through the Jogye Order.
