Seqenenre Tao

16th century BCE · 16th century BCE

Seqenenre Tao was a king of the Theban Seventeenth Dynasty of Egypt in the 16th century BCE, when the Hyksos ruled the north from Avaris. He began open war against the Hyksos king Apepi. His mummy shows fatal head wounds from axes, suggesting he died in battle or was executed. His successors Kamose and Ahmose I completed the expulsion of the Hyksos.
