Serpukhov
Serpukhov is a city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, where the Nara joins the Oka, about 100 kilometres south of Moscow. First recorded in the will of Ivan Kalita in 1339, it became the seat of an appanage whose prince Vladimir the Bold fortified it and founded the Vysotsky Monastery. For centuries it guarded Moscow's southern frontier against steppe raids.
