Servius Tullius

trad. r. 578–535 BCE · 6th century BCE

Servius Tullius was, according to Roman tradition, the sixth king of Rome, reigning in the 6th century BCE. He was credited with the first census, the division of citizens into wealth classes that formed the basis of the army and the centuriate assembly, and the so-called Servian Wall. Emperor Claudius identified him with the Etruscan adventurer Mastarna of Vulci, shown in the François Tomb paintings.
