Sevastopol

Also known as Sebastopol

Sevastopol is a port city in south-western Crimea, founded by the Russian Empire in 1783 as the base of the Black Sea Fleet, near the ruins of Greek Chersonesus. It withstood long sieges in the Crimean War (1854–1855) and the Second World War (1941–1942). Annexed by Russia in 2014 with the rest of Crimea, it is internationally recognised as part of Ukraine.
