Sher Muhammad Khan of Malerkotla
Sher Muhammad Khan was nawab of Malerkotla in the Punjab in the early 18th century, serving under the Mughal governor of Sirhind. In 1705 he protested against the execution of Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh, who were walled up alive at Sirhind. His plea, remembered as the 'haah da naara', was honoured by the Sikhs, who spared Malerkotla in later conflicts.
