Soest Feud

1444–1449 · 15th century

The Soest Feud was a war in which the town of Soest broke from its lord, the archbishop of Cologne, and placed itself under the duke of Cleves and count of Mark. The archbishop besieged Soest in 1447 with an army including Bohemian mercenaries but failed, and the town stayed with Cleves-Mark, weakening Cologne's hold on Westphalia.
