Soest
Soest is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, east of Dortmund. In the Middle Ages it was one of the largest towns of Westphalia and a leading member of the Hanseatic League, whose town law influenced many others. In the Soest Feud of 1444–1449 it threw off the rule of the Archbishop of Cologne and joined the Duke of Cleves. It keeps many medieval churches built of local green sandstone.
