States General of the Netherlands

Also known as States-General

The States General of the Netherlands was the assembly of the provinces of the Dutch Republic. It granted charters to trading companies such as the Dutch East India Company. Accounts of the Dutch Empire treat it as a foundational institution of Dutch overseas expansion.
